Denzel Washington is an actor and filmmaker from Mount Vernon, New York. Washington studied drama in university and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama and Journalism. He later focused on studying acting and appeared in plays such as Othello and Wings of the Morning. He made his first film appearance in the television movie Wilma in 1977. He later made his television breakthrough in the series St. Elsewhere in 1982, and gradually rose to international prominence with his starring roles in Cry Freedom, Glory, Malcolm X, The Hurricane, and Unstoppable. Washington has numerous to his name including 2 Academy Awards, 2 Golden Globe Awards, and 5 Black Reel Awards.
