The Lead Sheet ~ 10/6/2026
The Lead Sheet is your guide to this week’s new music - taking a look at newly released albums, who made them, and how listeners are responding
This weekend country star Miranda Lambert released her eleventh studio album, Crisco, which was quickly embraced as a fresh change-up for the musician. Departing from her trademark heartbreak anthems, Lambert ventures into disco, yacht rock, and countrypolitan…hence, Crisco. The new album’s focus on joy and creative expression is much more tonally upbeat and dance-friendly than recent records, and resembles a cross between Dolly Parton and the Bee Gees, while exploring cinematic spaghetti western ideas. Clever string arrangements elevate the record with classic Hollywood underscoring throughout. The opening track “Snakeskin Boots” spins a narrative around a diamond-heist and features rising country singer Ella Langley, while Chris Stapleton joins for a duet on “A Song to Sing”. Reception is overwhelmingly positive, and critics applaud Lambert’s new musical direction. Lambert has not announced an album tour, but recently performed the new material at the opening of her Nashville venue, The Truth. Amazon Music will stream the concert on October 7th.
Over the course of his career, Benjamin Lasky, A.K.A Quadeca has steadily evolved from YouTube rapper to highly respected musician through his experimental approach to electronic and hip-hop production. His new and fifth album, Life 1, is perhaps his most introspective release yet, earning praise from critics and listeners for its vulnerability around mental health and depression. Whereas his previous LP Vanisher sought to explore high-concept storytelling through grandiose, massive arrangements, Life 1 strips down to bedroom art-pop, which suits the intimacy of the subject matter. The result is an effortlessly accessible fourteen track piece that flows freely through a broad range of genres like R&B, jazz, folk, indie-rock, and electronica. Quadeca’s vocals are in top form, taking on a refined maturity, but these are juxtaposed with Life 1’s sudden and sometimes jarring humorous inserts; the album is interspersed with whimsical sound effects and absurd lyrics that for some fans are a little too goofy to be taken seriously. However, many others find these mood swings as exemplary of the human condition, and demonstrate Quadeca’s self awareness. Quadeca will take Life 1 on tour from October 10th through November 10th throughout major cities in North America.
South London seven-piece Fat Dog’s sophomore album, Cancel Me (I’m Tired) dropped this weekend to mostly positive reviews. The group is known for their raucous, high-energy live shows and aggressively fun attitude, applying a satirical edge to EDM and new rave music. Cancel Me (I’m Tired) covers a variety of topics – chiefly tour burnout and exhaustion of being in the public eye. However, Fat Dog also tackles heavy themes such as addiction, aging, and family relationships through the lens of industrial-techno and electro-punk. Cancel Me (I’m Tired) also lambasts online outrage culture and rapidly flips between opinions on Disney conspiracies, aliens, and artificial intelligence with pulsing beats and mosh-pit mayhem. The album is seen as a fun, well-paced rave that captures the spirit of Fat Dog’s live concerts, but some find their penchant for shock value and crass humor to be a tired shtick, and hope to see the band explore new ideas. Despite the title’s claims of being tired, Fat Dog is gearing up for a massive international tour to kick off in the UK and Europe at the end of October, with a leg in Australia in December.
Vermont based singer-songwriter Greg Freeman is a rising star in indie rock. The musician initially turned heads with his 2022 debut I Looked Out, followed by the massively successful Burnover in 2025, which received a “best new album” distinction from Pitchfork magazine. His new and third LP All Set The Bone is a journey through Americana, slacker garage rock, and alt-country, inspired by Freeman’s travels across America. Chimney acoustic guitars along with string and brass sections paint a picture of a modern dystopia, and Freeman spins stories of forsaken characters from the heartland. Backed up by indie-folk guests Anna McClellan and Trinity Ace, Freeman’s strained dramatic vocals express tension and anxiety about the future. The album boasts a sixty-seven minute runtime, which some listeners find daunting given its tragic atmosphere, but many find Freeman’s poetic lyrics cathartic, soothed by its blunt snapshot of rural life. Freeman will take All Set The Bone on tour at the end of October in North America, with dates set for February in the UK and Europe.
Alt-rock quintet Wishy’s highly anticipated second album, Nature’s Pill dropped on Friday to glowing critical reception. Wishy has earned a reputation for their distinct 90s aesthetic, walls of sounds and dual lead vocalists, Kevin Krautner and Nina Pitchkites, who share a mic for most of their discography. Nature’s Pill takes inspiration from formative high school years, exploring young romantic frustration and social anxiety across a range of genres. The LP blends sugary indie-pop, shoegaze, and mid-west emo with adolescent angst and catchy melodic hooks. Clever compositions stack blown out overdriven guitars, jangly chords and hard-hitting, punchy drums. Critics have praised Nature’s Pill, seeing it as a level-up from their debut Triple Seven in terms of cohesion and ambition, with more accessible, memorable tracks. Wishy will embark on an extensive fall and winter tour in the United States, running October 9th through December 16th, and will take NYC indie-pop artist youbet along as their opening act.
