Box Office Round-Up -- 1/31/22

Peter Parker’s spider-sense was the only thing tingling at the box office this weekend, as the exact same movies took the top five spots as last weekend. Spider-Man: No Way Home remains uncontested for first place, taking in another $11 million. While Moonfall and Jackass Forever may challenge Spidey next weekend, surpassing Avatar for the biggest all-time domestic box office seems like more of a question of if, rather than when.

Next week’s new releases pose more of a threat to Scream and The King’s Man, which took in $7.35 million in second place and $1.75 million in fifth place. In third place, Sing 2 brought in $4.8 million, while romantic drama Redeeming Love netted $1.85 million in fourth. Expect to see all four films move lower on the list in the coming weeks as more new releases of 2022 start to arrive.

Outside the top five, Ghostbusters: Afterlife returned to the top ten with $770,000 in eighth place. With the sci-fi/fantasy sequel already available on digital, and out on physical release this week, it may just be keeping a seat warm on the box office chart for whatever new theatrical releases await in February.
