Series Snapshot ~ 9/11/25

Welcome to the Series Snapshot, a weekly deep dive into the shows topping the streaming charts.

Netflix’s popular spinoff of The Addams FamilyWednesday, returns to the number one most watched this week, after a brief drop in comparative viewership against thrillers like Hostage and Two Graves. The series’ second season has been getting consistent praise for its push toward darker, creepier themes and imagery, and for lead actor Jenna Ortega’s exemplary performance as the titular Wednesday Addams. Fans of the series are delighted to hear that Netflix has greenlit a third season, set to premiere sometime in 2027. Wednesday also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmánand Isaac Ordonez, and comes from creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.

Alien: Earth continues its chart domination streak on Hulu this week, and is being celebrated as a fresh new franchise from Disney, as viewers feel moderate fatigue on Marvel and Star Wars. With a source material grounded in horror, the series is able to cater to an adult audience and viewers appreciate not pulling punches for the sake of family friendly-marketability. Alien: Earth will likely get a few Emmy nominations as well, almost certainly for production design and special effects, but also for stellar performances from Timothy Olyphant, Sydney Chandler, and Babou Ceesay.

HBO Max’s Peacemaker makes room for a new number one this week, original series Task. Task is a crime-drama starring Mark Ruffalo, Tom Pelphreyand Emilia Jones, in which a former priest and now FBI agent, (Ruffalo) must apprehend a repeat violent-burglar (Pelphrey) and bring him to justice. So far the series has received positive reviews, and shoutouts for Ruffalo and Pelphrey, whose deft performances drive Task’s high-stakes scenes. Task is a limited series, and will release weekly through October 19th.

At Amazon, new series The Terminal List: Dark Wolf enjoys another week at the top, ahead of close second The Summer I Turned Pretty. A spinoff of The Terminal List, Dark Wolf serves as a prequel to the spy-action thriller, and is getting good feedback from viewers. The series stars Taylor Kitsch, Tom Hopper and Chris Pratt, and follows their characters' paths from Navy SEALs to CIA Operatives. The Terminal List: Dark Wolf comes from creators Jack Carr and David DiGilio, and has just two more episodes, airing September 17th and 24th.

Apple TV original sleeper hit, Platonic, shook things up this week, taking the number one spot on the platform. Interestingly, Platonic released its second season in early August of this year, but is only now charting a month later at number one, highlighting what is likely organic growth of the series over time as viewers discover the show. Platonic stars Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, who both starred together in the 2014 film Neighbors, and is also directed by Nicholas Stoller (who also directed the Neighbors films). The series explores the question “can men and women really just be friends?” as the pair try to reconnect as adults and navigate their lives through unpredictable chaos. Platonic season two is set to release new episodes through October first.

At Disney Plus, High Potential is living up to its name, taking the most watched title ahead of its season two premiere on September 16th. The series is being watched by first time and repeat viewers to prepare for the new season. Kaitlin Olson garnered praise for her phenomenal performance in season one and earned a nomination for “Best Actress in a Drama Series” from Astra TV. High Potential also stars Daniel Sunjata, and Judy Reyes, and comes from creator Drew Goddard.
