Box Office Round-Up ~ 4/7/25

A Minecraft Movie won its opening weekend at the box office with $163 million, surpassing all expectations to become not only the biggest opening weekend of 2025, but also the biggest weekend ever for a video game adaptation (passing The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s $146 million debut from 2023). It undoubtedly benefited from the spring break moviegoing crowd, as well as the Minecraft video game’s multi-generational popularity.
Unsurprisingly, the rest of the box office took a bit of a hit, with A Working Man moving to second place with $7.2 million. It will likely clear $30 million domestically by next weekend. Hot on the heels of Part 1, The Chosen: Last Supper — Part 2 debuted with $6.9 million, with the two installments combining to gross nearly $25 million overall. Snow White took in $5.9 million after three weekends, while The Woman in the Yard finished in fifth with a sophomore weekend gross of $4.5 million.
This coming weekend sees a handful of new releases, including Blumhouse thriller Drop and spy actioner The Amateur. Fathom will release The Chosen: Last Supper — Part 3 and, not to be outdone, Angel Studios has The King of Kings, an animated adaptation of the life of Jesus Christ as told by Charles Dickens.
