Box Office Round-Up ~ 3/12/25

It was another slow weekend at movie theaters, as Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17 debuted with a disappointing $19 million opening weekend. Warner Bros. was likely hoping for more from an Oscar winner and their current Batman, not to mention a $118 million budget. The film is doing better internationally, but is unlikely to come close to $100 million domestically.

Captain America: Brave New World took in $8.3 million after four weekends in theaters, clearing $175 million in the U.S. It could come close to $200 million by the end of its run, but only barely. Last Breath grossed $4 million in third place, while The Monkey passed $30 million overall with a fourth place gross of $3.9 million. Paddington in Peru rounded out the top five with $3.7 million.

Modest but decent business across the board, with no one movie clearly sparking with audiences yet this spring. No obvious big number contenders coming this weekend, which sees the release of Steven Soderbergh’s spy drama Black Bag, animated The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie and action comedy Novocaine.
