Box Office Round-Up ~ 2/12/25

All eyes were on the Super Bowl this past weekend, which naturally came at the expense of movie theaters. Dog Man retained the top spot in its second weekend with $13.8 million, passing $50 million overall in the U.S.

Two new releases underperformed, unfortunately, with Valentine’s Day slasher Heart Eyes taking second place with $8.3 million. Action comedy Love Hurts, starring Oscar winners Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose came in third with $5.8 million.

Mufasa: The Lion King remained in the top five after eight weeks, grossing $4 million to reach $235 million domestically. Companion rounded out the top five with a sophomore weekend gross of $3 million.

The holiday weekend will see Captain America: Brave New World and Paddington in Peru compete for the number one spot. It should be noted that Paddington has already grossed over $100 million internationally, and may give the MCU a bigger run for its money than expected.
