Box Office Round-Up ~ 1/15/25

The big hits of the holidays gave way to new 2025 releases this past weekend, as Den of Thieves 2: Pantera debuted atop the box office with $15 million. It’s a comparable opening weekend to the original Gerard Butler actioner from 2018, and looks to be the requisite January action hit for this year.

Mufasa: The Lion King and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 moved down to second and third place, grossing $14.2 million and $11.3 million respectively. Sonic cleared the $200 million domestic mark, and Mufasa should be able to do the same over the upcoming holiday weekend.

Nosferatu took fourth place with $6.8 million in its third weekend in theaters. It has grossed $81 million overall, making $100 million a tough call but not completely out of reach. Rounding out the top five, Moana 2 grossed $6.5 million to settle in as the fourth highest grossing movie of 2024, giving Disney three of the four biggest hits of last year.
