Box Office Round-Up ~ 12/11/24

As expected, Moana 2 and Wicked continued to dominate the December box office, grossing $51.2 million and $36.4 million respectively. The former is on the doorstep of $300 million domestically, while the latter crossed that mark this past week. They both seem to be locks to end up in the top five highest-grossing releases of the year.

Gladiator II held onto third place with $12.5 million in its third weekend, while Red One did the same with fourth place, grossing $7 million in its final weekend before streaming on Amazon Prime.

The rest of the box office field was a bit of a free-for-all, with a wide array of smaller releases jockeying for a spot in the top five. Among them were A24’s horror comedy Y2K (Kyle Mooney’s directorial debut), the tenth anniversary re-release of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and Frank Grillo-led actioner Werewolves. Fifth place ultimately went to Indian Telugu-language action sequel Pushpa: The Rule - Part 2 with $4.8 million.
