Box Office Round-Up ~ 9/26/24

The combined might of the Autobots and Decepticons wasn’t enough to unseat Beetlejuice Beetlejuice at the box office this past weekend, as the Michael Keaton-led sequel grossed $25.9 million in its third weekend, passing $200 million total in the U.S. Animated prequel/reboot Transformers One took second place with a disappointing $24.6 million. The Transformers franchise has been seeing diminishing returns at the box office as far back as Transformers: The Last Knight in 2017, and it looks like the shift over to pure animation wasn’t the boost they were hoping for at Paramount.

Speak No Evil held third place in its second weekend with $5.7 million, beating out new horror release Never Let Go from genre mainstay Alejandre Aja (Crawl, Piranha), which debuted in fourth place with $4.4 million. Unsurprisingly, Deadpool & Wolverine remained in the top five with $3.8 million in its ninth weekend.

The final weekend of September sees an interesting field of new release, albeit not one that looks to dethrone Beetlejuice at the box office. New titles include Kate Winslet-led biopic Lee, DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot, the wide release of Amazon-MGM comedy My Old Ass and last but not least, the much anticipated (if that’s the correct word) premiere of Megalopolis from the legendary Francis Ford Coppola.
