Box Office Round-Up ~ 9/9/24
The Ghost With the Most lived up to his name this weekend as Beetlejuice Beetlejuice opened on a massive 4500+ screens, grossing $111 million in its debut weekend. It’s the second biggest opening weekend ever for director Tim Burton and already on track to become his biggest hit since at least 2010’s Alice in Wonderland (whose $334 million total isn’t necessarily out of reach either).
Deadpool & Wolverine moved to second place, grossing $7 million for an overall domestic total of $613 million. It may not quite get to Inside Out 2’s total of $651 million, but it’s going to be a photo finish. Reagan moved up to third place with a sophomore weekend gross of $5.2 million, solid numbers for a biopic that’s clearly found its target audience.
Alien: Romulus took in $3.9 million in fourth place, and should pass $100 million overall by next weekend. Rounding out the top five was It Ends With Us with $3.7 million, putting past $140 million overall. Next weekend should be Beetlejuice’s to lose, with the only major competition coming from two R-rated releases: horror/thriller Speak No Evil and Dave Bautista actioner The Killer’s Game.
