Box Office Round-Up ~ 3/13/24

This past weekend saw the expected (and hoped-for) resurgence at the box office, as Kung Fu Panda 4 debuted with $57.9 million, the best opening weekend for the DreamWorks Animation franchise since the original Kung Fu Panda back in 2008. And not to be outdone, Dune: Part Two had a rock-solid hold in its second weekend, dropping just 44% to gross $46.2 million, putting it past the $150 million mark domestically.

Two more new releases followed Dune: Part Two in third and fourth place. Blumhouse’s latest horror release Imaginary opened with $9.9 million, while Angel Studios’ Cabrini took fourth place with $7.1 million. Both films surpassed their projected numbers. Bob Marley: One Love rounded out the top five with $4 million, closing in on $90 million overall in its fourth weekend.

St. Patrick’s Day weekend sees several new releases, including comedy The American Society of Magical Negroes, Mark Wahlberg-led drama Arthur the King and the wide release of A24’s Love Lies Bleeding. Despite the crowded field, it would be fair to expect the pandas or the sandworms to take the top spot once more.
