Box Office Round-up -- 3/21/22

Despite several new releases this weekend, The Batman held strong and won the box office with $36.8 million, surpassing $300 million domestically. It was an overall strong showing for both new and old releases, with the big surprise coming from Japan in the form of Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie. Distributed in the US by anime mainstay Crunchyroll (recently acquired by Sony, having absorbed their existing anime distributor FUNimation), the manga adaptation took second place with an impressive $17.6 million.

Tom Holland actioner Uncharted took the number-three spot with an additional $8 million in its fifth weekend in theatres. In fouth place, new horror release X grossed $4.4 million. The stylish blend of Boogie Nights and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre from director Ti West looks to be another critical—and financial—success for indie powerhouse A24.

Last but certainly not least in the top five, Channing Tatum’s feel-good road movie Dog leashed another $4 million. And just outside the top five, our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man: No Way Home surpassed the $800 million domestic mark in sixth place, with a weekend total of $3.2 million.
