Box Office Round-Up -- 2/28/22
The final weekend of February saw no change to the reigning champs at the box office. Uncharted and Dog both outperformed expectations in their sophomore weekends, with $23.25 million and $10.1 million respectively. Audiences were undoubtedly seeking some escapism at movie theatres, and treasure-hunting action and feel-good comedy were likely just the ticket.
Friendly neighborhood box office juggernaut Spider-Man: Far From Home also out-grossed predictions by almost 50%, adding another $5.75 million to its staggering numbers. Spidey has now surpassed Avatar for third on the all-time domestic list. Thanks to his appearances in Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War, the webhead is now tied with fellow Marvel alum Black Panther for the highest grossing superhero, with three movies apiece in the top ten. We’ll see if The Batman can put up some numbers for DC next weekend to balance things out.
Once again, Death on the Nile ($4.5 million) and Jackass Forever ($3.175 million) rounded out the top five. With only Batman looking to be a big audience draw in the coming weeks, the early hits of 2022 have a good chance of hanging on in the top five—or top ten—through a good chunk of March.
