Box Office Round-Up -- 2/7/22

Spider-Man finally gave up the box office throne this weekend, as new releases Jackass Forever and Moonfall took the top two spots, with $23.5 million and $10 million respectively. It was a better-than-predicted gross for Jackass Forever, certainly by pandemic standards. Meanwhile, Moonfall underwhelmed compared to director Roland Emmerich previous sci-fi disaster epics, such as 2012 and The Day After Tomorrow.

Despite falling to third place, Spider-Man: No Way Home still webbed up a respectable $9.6 million. It should continue to close in on Avatar for the all-time domestic box office record, even as it competes on the charts with new 2022 releases. Rounding out the top five, familiar faces Scream and Sing 2 grossed $4.73 million and $4.11 million. Expect Sing 2 to remain a fixture at the box office in the coming weeks, as it represents the most family-friendly release in theatres until perhaps Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in April.

Outside the top five, the cinematic holdouts of last month (and last year) may be seeing their final weekends in the top ten, as the coming weeks see the likes of murder-mystery Death on the Nile, starring Gal Gadot, Liam Neeson-led actioner Blacklight, and video game adaptation Uncharted with Mark Wahlberg and Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland.
