Box Office Round-Up ~ 10/28/24

Sony’s Spider-Man adjacent live-action universe took another hit this weekend as Venom: The Last Dance, the third and final chapter in the Venom saga debuted with a disappointing $51 million. It has already outperformed Madame Web from earlier this year, but it’s a massive drop from 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage and doesn’t bode well for Kraven the Hunter in December.

In second place, Smile 2 grossed $9.5 million to pass $40 million overall. The Wild Robot continued its surprisingly successful box office run with $6.8 million in its fifth weekend. In fourth place, papal drama Conclave debuted with $6.6 million, a solid opening as awards season began in full. Speaking of which, We Live in Time rounded out the top five with a third-weekend gross of $4.8 million.

This coming weekend sees the beginning of November and handful of new releases, including Liam Neeson actioner Absolution, the re-release of Toho’s Godzilla Minus One and Robert Zemeckis’ new drama Here, starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright.
