Box Office Round-Up ~ 10/20/25
Once again, horror rode to the rescue at the box office as the Ethan Hawke-led Black Phone 2 exceeded expectations with a $27.3 million debut. Thanks to a modest $30 million budget, positive critical response and no other big horror titles looming this month, it should perform well through the rest of the Halloween season.
Tron: Ares fell to second place in its second weekend with just $11.1 million. It now has $54 million total in the U.S., but with just over $100 million worldwide on a budget of $180 million (more if you factor in marketing), it’ll be a tall order for it to make a profit for Disney, likely signaling another long hiatus for the Tron franchise.
Aziz Ansari’s directorial debut Good Fortune opened in third place with $6.2 million, bolstered by decent critical and audience reactions. One Battle After Another remained in the top five after four weekends with $3.8 million, while Roofman moved to fifth place with $3.7 million, for a two-weekend domestic total of $15 million.
This coming weekend sees Blue Moon — another Ethan Hawke movie, this time reuniting with director Richard Linklater — expand to wide release, alongside the debut of rock biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere and romantic dramedy Regretting You, starring Allison Williams, McKenna Grace and Dave Franco.
