Box Office Round-Up ~ 8/10/26

Spider-Man: Brand New Day wrapped up its second weekend in theaters with a massive $144.2 million total (the third best sophomore weekend gross ever). That’s a number that most movies would happy to make in their opening weekend, and for Spider-Man it was enough to put it at $654 million domestic, with another billion internationally for $1.67 billion worldwide. In addition to easily becoming the top grossing movie of 2026, it’s now at #10 on the all-time domestic list, knocking Jurassic World out of the top ten. It will likely pass at least Titanic and Avengers: Infinity War by this time next week.

Undaunted by the webslinger atop the charts, The Odyssey held on to second place with $31.5 million in its fourth weekend, reaching $461 million in the U.S. and passing a billion dollars worldwide. It also passed The Super Mario Galaxy Movie to become the third highest grossing movie of the year, just $9 million behind Toy Story 5. Incidentally, Toy Story 5 stayed in the top five, grossing $3.9 million in its eighth weekend in theaters.

Two new releases found themselves in third and fourth place. Dystopian rom-com One Night Only debuted in third with $5.7 million. Most romantic comedies have been relegated to streaming these days, so it’s hard to compare One Night Only to similar movies. It’s comparable to Solo Mio’s $7 million opening in February, though not quite as good as The Drama’s $14.3 million in April.

Super Troopers 3 opened in fourth place with $4 million, the weakest opening of the franchise so far. Super Troopers 2 grossed $15 million in 2018, while the original grossed $6.2 million back in early 2002 (it went on make an impressive $23.1 million with a budget of $1.2 million). The aforementioned Toy Story 5 was in fifth place.

This coming weekend is a crowded one, though it’s unclear if any of the new releases will outdo Brand New Day for the number one spot. New arrivals include Cold War drama The Brink of War, Matthew McConaughey-led crime thriller The Crimes of Amziah King, The End of Oak Street from writer/director David Robert Mitchell (It Follows) and producer J.J. Abrams, comedy The Wrong Girls starring Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat, Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie, and the 25th anniversary re-release of Wet Hot American Summer.
