Box Office Round-Up ~ 9/8/26

As summer gave way to the beginning of fall, one thing remained constant… Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the number one movie at the box office. After six weekends atop the charts, Spidey grossed $18.1 million over Labor Day to reach $917 million domestically. Now just a little less than $20 million behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it’s a matter of when, not if, it’ll become the highest grossing movie of all time in the United States. Additionally it’s almost to $2.5 billion worldwide, making it the third highest grossing movie on that list behind Avatar and Avengers: Endgame.

The Odyssey moved back up to second place in its eighth weekend, grossing $13 million to reach $584 million domestically. Coyote vs. Acme dropped to third place in its sophomore weekend with a solid $11.9 million to reach $34 million overall domestically. Crime thriller By Any Means, starring Mark Wahlberg and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, debuted in fourth place with $7.4 million, while Insidious: Out of the Further grossed $6.5 million in fifth place, passing $54 million overall after three weekends.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day may have another weekend to win, with no major contenders hitting theaters later this weekend. There are some notable new releases debuting however, including supernatural sequel Practical Magic 2, Alan Ritchson-led actioner Runner, period drama The Uprising from writer/director Paul Greengrass, and the theatrical re-release of The Passion of the Christ (in anticipation of its sequels, slated to arrive early next year).
