Box Office Round-Up ~ 12/15/25

Zootopia 2 retook the top of the box office in the final weekend before the holidays truly begin, capitalizing on a big drop from Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and the underperforming of new release Ella McCay (which failed to crack the top five). The Disney sequel took in $25.8 million, putting it at $258 million total domestically. Meanwhile, FNAF 2 dropped to just $19.3 million in its sophomore weekend, though it looks like it’ll passed $100 million overall before Christmas.

Wicked: For Good held onto third place, passing $300 million total with a fourth-weekend total of $8.5 million. In fourth place, Indian action thriller Dhurandhar made a surprise appearance in the top five, grossing $3.4 million in its second weekend in the U.S. In fifth place, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t grossed $2.3 million to near $60 million overall.

This coming weekend sees a pair of family-friendly new releases with The Spongebob Movie: Search for Squarepants and Angel Studios’ David. Paul Feig (A Simple Favor, Bridesmaids) returns to the big screen, directing The Housemaid, starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney. And last but certainly not least, James Cameron takes us back to Pandora with Avatar: Fire and Ash. 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water cleared $2.3 billion worldwide, and similar success - or lack thereof - from Fire and Ash may determine the fates of the would-be fourth and fifth Avatar films that Cameron has planned.
