Box Office Round-Up ~ 8/24/26

Spider-Man: Brand New Day reigned supreme for a fourth weekend in a row, grossing $39 million to pass $850 million domestically. Its days atop the box office may be numbered as we move out of summer and into the fall movie season, but it already has $2.2 billion worldwide and should continue to pad that number over the coming weeks, even with a likely pivot to streaming/digital on the horizon.

New release Insidious: Out of the Further debuted in second place with $25.1 million, a solid number albeit the weakest opening weekend in the franchise since Insidious Chapter 3 back in 2015. The Odyssey moved to third place, bringing in $19.7 million in its sixth weekend. It will wrap up the summer with $539 million in the U.S. and close to $1.5 billion worldwide.

The dueling dinosaur movies took fourth and fifth place in their mutual second weekend in theaters. PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie grossed $9.1 million for a domestic total of $35 million so far, while The End of Oak Street took in $8.7 million in fifth place to pass $37 million total.

August wraps up this coming weekend with an array of new releases, highlighted by post-apocalypse drama The Dog Stars from director Ridley Scott, and Coyote vs. Acme, the Looney Tunes live-action/animation hybrid that had previously been the victim of Warner Bros. Discovery tax write-offs before finding new distribution and new life with independent distributor Ketchup Entertainment.
