Box Office Round-Up ~ 4/21/25

Like Christmas movies that premiere on Halloween weekend, it was a horror film that won the Good Friday/Easter weekend at the box office. Writer/director Ryan Coogler’s vampire genre-bender Sinners opened with an impressive $48 million. It’s a nice win for Warner Bros. after a string of disappointing original and auteur-headed films, including Mickey 17 earlier this year.
A Minecraft Movie moved down to second place in its third weekend, grossing $40.4 million to pass $340 million overall domestically, making it easily the highest grossing movie of 2025 thus far. The King of Kings celebrated Easter in third place with $17.5 million, putting it on the cusp of a solid $50 million total in the U.S.
Rounding out the top five were The Amateur with $7 million and Warfare with $4.8 million, both in their second weekend in theaters. Two new titles will close out the month of April this coming weekend… The Accountant 2, starring Jon Bernthal alongside a returning Ben Affleck, and horror video game adaptation Until Dawn from director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Shazam!).
