Series Snapshot ~ 10/30/25

Welcome to the Series Snapshot, a weekly deep dive into the shows topping the streaming charts.

This week, Netflix’s romantic comedy series Nobody Wants This began its second season, and clinched the top spot in viewership. Nobody Wants This explores the intersection of religion and relationships, featuring an unlikely pairing of a rabbi and a sex-podcaster, who together navigate love from different backgrounds. The first season of the series was an immediate success, with critics and fans praising the show’s wit and authentic dialogue, as well as the performances of Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, who play the series’ star-crossed lovers. Season two has not scored as highly as the first, despite its high viewership, with main criticism being that its plot feels a little bland, and doesn't reach the peak excitement that the first season embodied. Nobody Wants This was created by Erin Foster and all episodes of season two are streaming now.

At Hulu, popular mystery-comedy Only Murders in the Building is back to reclaim its top spot after slipping last week to Murdaugh: Death in the FamilyOnly Murders, currently in its fifth season, has had an outstanding run, consistently receiving high praise and critical reception. Season five sees its iconic trio of Selena GomezSteve Martin and Martin Short in top form, as they investigate a murder and uncover conspiracies. Only Murders in the Building was created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman.

This week, HBO’s long time number one thriller Task, finally gives up the spot at the top for new series, IT: Welcome to Derry. The horror series takes place in the world of Stephen King’s IT, but is set decades prior to the events of the book and films, and serves as the origin story for iconic Pennywise the clown, played again by Bill SkarsgårdWelcome to Derry expands on the deeper lore of the novel, and was developed for television by the recent films’ director Andy Muschietti with Jason Fuchs serving as showrunner. The series stars Bill Skarsgård, Taylour Paige and Jovan Adepo.

At Amazon, another repeated win for Gen V, which is currently receiving great reviews for its second season. The college spin-off of popular original series The Boys, is getting great viewership, but opinions are a divided between critics, who rate the season quite highly, and fans, who rate it lower on average. Points of praise include the show's tasteful navigation of the passing of season one star Chance Perdomo, whose character was written out with great care, carried authentically by the cast, and also the introduction of an exciting new character, Dean Cipher, played by Hamish Linklater. Gen V season two also stars Jaz Sinclair and Lizze Broadway, and was created by Eric Kripke

AppleTV sees original thriller series The Last Frontier once again take number one in viewership. Opinions on the series, which early on were somewhat poor, seem to have shifted. Despite critical consensus that the show’s flaws such as inconsistent writing and a cliched overarching plot involving CIA conspiracy waste some potential, general audiences are beginning to embrace the show as a fun, monster-of-the-week procedural neo-western, calling it “popcorn television”. The Last Frontier stars Jason Clarke, Dominic Cooper and Haley Bennett and comes from series creator Jon Bokenkamp

High Potential, ABC’s original crime comedy, takes another victory lap on Disney Plus this week, ahead of Chad Powers and 9-1-1Nashville. Fans and critics have consistently rated the show highly, praising the series' comforting primetime structure and witty writing. Kaitlin Olson continues to dazzle viewers as the genius IQ cleaning lady, Morgan Gillory, whose chemistry with fellow actors Daniel Sunjata and Jamicia Leslie give the show its charm and comedic voice. According to new Nielsen data, High Potential is the first series since 1999’s ER to rank at #1 while broadcasting during the 10 P.M. timeslot. High Potential was created by Drew Goddard, and will pick up from the mid-season break January 6, 2026.
