Series Snapshot ~ 3/5/2026

Welcome to the Series Snapshot, a weekly deep dive into the shows topping the streaming charts.

Netflix’s regency romance Bridgerton returns to the top spot this week, as viewers and critics begin to agree that season four is the series’ best yet. This season’s success is largely attributed to a daring Cinderella plot involving Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), dubbed “Benophie” by the more die-hard fans. Initially, viewers had reservations about the new direction, but have since warmed, embracing the new episodes’ heightened emotions and dark tone. Season four’s finale released on February 26th and was met with high ratings, though some point out the wrap-up felt slightly rushed, and a little too clean given the preceding chaos. Season four also saw a queer romance take the lead for the first time, between Francesca and Michaela, (Hannah Dodd and Masali Baduza), which is expected to be the centerpiece for season five, to begin production this month. Bridgerton was created by Chris Van Dusen.

Season two of Hulu’s original post-apocalypse thriller Paradise continues to perform well, taking the most watched title this week. The series’ topical subject matter about an elite class retreating to a lavish bunker to wait out a doomsday largely brought about by their actions seems to have struck a chord. Sterling K. Brown’s emotional reactions and frustrations feel therapeutic to audiences. Despite some parallels with current global politics, series creator Dan Fogelman, (also known for This Is Us) has stated that the show is apolitical, and has no intention of lambasting any specific government, rather focusing on the human condition. Viewers praise the series for strong writing, and careful portrayals of its characters, which live in shades of grey rather than stark “good-guy/bad-guy” tropes. Hulu has not officially confirmed a greenlit third season, though it seems likely given the success of the series so far.

HBO’s Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms defends its crown again, as audiences continue to view and recommend the show.  Season one concluded with a satisfying end, but left fans craving more. Said fans are delighted by the news that HBO plans to adapt all of the source-material novellas, and are working with creator George R. R. Martin to potentially continue the story even beyond that. To many, Seven Kingdoms represents some of the strongest casting in GoT canon: Peter Claffey shines as Ser Duncan the Tall, his squire Egg played with wit and innocence by Dexter Sol Ansell, and the enigmatic Ser Lyonel Baratheon masterfully portrayed by Daniel Ings with chaotic mischief. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was created by George R. R. Martin and Ira Parker.

At Amazon Prime Video, Fallout viewership begins to wane, and limited series 56 Days strengthens its foothold at the top this week. Audiences are rapt with the turbulent romance between Ciara and Oliver (Dove Cameron and Avan Jogia), whose fifty-six day relationship is flashed back to from a present-day murder investigation. Fans of Tell Me Lies will likely also enjoy this series; the “two-timeline” narrative structure seems to be a winning formula with romance-drama audiences. 56 Days, however, released its full series as a binge drop, rather than in weekly installments, and won’t continue for any further seasons. Viewers appreciate the easy-to-binge episodes, but some critics point out that it isn’t ashamed about relying on eye-candy and erotic thrills to keep things interesting when the plot dips.  56 Days is based on the novel by Catherine Ryan Howard, but takes some liberties and twists from the original material, sparking many a conversation in online forums. 56 Days was created by Karyn Usher and Lisa Zwerling.

AppleTV original Monarch: Legacy of Monsters premiered season two this week, receiving excellent reviews from fans and critics. Set in the Monsterverse (which includes familiar monsters like Kong, King Ghidorah, and Mothra) Legacy of Monsters follows the organization “Monarch”, a secret international organization tasked with monitoring the activities of “MUTO’s” or “Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms”. One of the series’ strongest elements is the casting of father-son duo Kurt and Wyatt Russell, who play the same character, Colonel Leland “Lee” Lafayette Shaw III. Wyatt plays a young version of Shaw, set in 1950’s flashbacks, and his father helms the modern day version of the character. Critics called the move “genius-casting” and it remains a strong draw for viewership. Also highly praised are the extremely high quality special effects, which rival cinematic releases in terms of CGI. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters was created by Chris Black and Matt Fraction.

Ryan Murphy’s biopic series Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette is once again most watched on Disney Plus this week. Audiences are smitten with Paul Anthony Kelley, who plays J.F.K. Jr. in a breakout star performance, as well as Sarah Pidgeon, who portrays Bessette with depth and nuance. The series explores the immense media pressure the couple experienced, recreating the highs and lows of 90’s celebrity culture and some of the pair’s more public spectacles. There is currently some debate about Love Story- some appreciate the show’s attempts to humanize two pop-culture icons, but others find the show exploitative, bluntly rehashing embarrassing moments in the couple’s life. Love Story also stars Naomi Watts as Jackie Kennedy Onassis, and Grace Gummer as Caroline Kennedy, and was created by Ryan Murphy and Connor Hines.
