Series Snapshot ~ 11/20/25
Welcome to the Series Snapshot, a weekly deep dive into the shows topping the streaming charts.
The most watched series on Netflix this week is an exciting new thriller mini-series, The Beast in Me. The series tells the story of prize winning author Aggie Wiggs (Claire Danes) as she investigates a suspicious new neighbor (Matthew Rhys), whose wife’s dissapearance demands answers. The two are fascinated by one another, and audiences can’t get enough of their cat-and-mouse dynamic. The Beast in Me has received universal praise for its superb acting performances, twists and cliffhangers, and Rhys gets special recognition for stealing the show as the charming and mysterious Nile Jarvis. Some note the series does rely on one or two cliches, but stays original and engaging, especially through the powerhouse cast, which also includes Brittany Snow and Natalie Morales. The Beast in Me was created, written and executive produced by Gabe Rotter, and all eight episodes are streaming now on Netflix.
Hulu sees the return of popular reality series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which wasted no time in claiming the number one streaming spot following the release of its third season this week. The new season is full of exciting scandals and Mormon TikTok drama. The microcosm of Utah’s influencer sphere continues to be a strong draw, and fans feel Mormon Wives is peak reality tv. Despite many admitting to watching the show as a guilty pleasure, or “trash-tv”, the series has received praise for its coverage of Mormon youth culture, and not shying away from serious topics like abuse and infidelity. Currently there has not been an official announcement from Hulu if the show will renew for a fourth season, but it seems all but guaranteed. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives was created by Jeff Jenkins and Taylor Frankie Paul.
Once again, It: Welcome to Derry is most-streamed at HBO Max. The series has been performing excellently, now on its fourth consecutive week at the top of the chart. Welcome to Derry continues to receive high acclaim for its terrifying and dark atmosphere, and bold body horror. While there hasn’t been an official confirmation, the creators have expressed that Welcome to Derry is intended to be a three season arc, with season two to be set in 1935, and three to take place in 1908. Bill Skarsgard’s performance as Pennywise has earned him considerable praise in the series, with fans and critics in agreement his unnerving screen presence is the best part of the series. It: Welcome to Derry was created by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs.
For Amazon, Maxton Hall: The World Between Us takes a victory lap, again ranking highest in viewership for the platform. The German youth-romance drama series is followed closely by original The Summer I Turned Pretty, and their similar content indicate huge demand for a “Gen Z Gossip Girl”. Maxton Hall has received overwhelmingly positive reviews, with viewers and critics praising the sharp writing, plot development and fantastic acting performances from its cast of young talent. The new season is generally rated higher than its first, and the show’s third and final season has begun production. Maxton Hall: The World Between Us stars Harriet Herbig Matten and Damien Hardung, and was based on the novels by Mona Kasten.
Vince Gilligan’s Pluribus is once again most watched on AppleTV. The new sci-fi thriller is generating a lot of buzz, sweeping fans and critics up in the terrifying hivemind apocalypse.
Rhea Seehorn’s performance as Carol Sturka has received unanimous praise, and drives the series forward. Many love not only the premise, but the impressive execution, coordinating difficult sequences with large groups of extras and putting the viewer in the protagonist's shoes. Shout outs are also given for Peter Bergman and Karolina Wydra, who play members of the hivemind with an uncanny, chilling sincerity. Pluribus has been renewed for a second season, and new episodes release every Friday until December 26th of this year.
At Disney Plus, All’s Fair takes the most viewed spot. All’s Fair has been panned, but continues to get high viewership, with fans in agreement the appeal of the show isn’t highbrow writing or Emmy-award winning performances, but the spectacle of the cast and trainwreck absurdity. Many curious viewers flock to see if series star Kim Kardashian can act, which in the minds of its audience, (Kardashian included) the answer is no. People watch shows for different reasons, and All’s Fair seems to be expertly finding an audience amongst both those who hope to see it fail, and those who genuinely enjoy the series. Either way, viewership remains sky high. All’s Fair also stars Glenn Close and Sarah Paulson, and comes from creators Ryan Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz, and Joe Baken.
