Box Office Round-Up ~ 4/14/25

Unsurprisingly, A Minecraft Movie retained the top spot at the box office this past weekend with $78 million, breezing past $200 million overall domestically. It should pass $300 million by this time next week. It’s now the second most successful video game adaptation ever, behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Four new releases battled for the rest of the top five, with Angel Studios’ animated The King of Kings coming in second place with $19.3 million, bolstered by the upcoming Easter weekend and perhaps being more family-friendly than Fathom’s multiple installments of The Chosen (the third of which also premiered, just outside the top five in sixth place).
Spy thriller The Amateur took third with $15 million while Warfare, from co-directors Alex Garland and Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza, debuted in fourth place with $8.3 million. Rounding out the top five was Drop, the latest thriller from Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky), with an opening weekend gross of $7.5 million.
The upcoming Good Friday/Easter weekend sees another handful of new releases, though A Minecraft Movie will remain the title to beat. Among the new arrivals are vampire thriller Sinners, the latest collaboration between Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan, animated talking sneaker adventure Sneaks, and comedy The Wedding Banquet, starring Bowen Yang and Lily Gladstone.
