Box Office Round-Up -- 3/28/22

Batman and Spider-Man may have some big numbers at the box office, but there are few more reliable moneymakers than Sandra Bullock. After headlining streaming features over the past few years, this weekend saw Bullock back on the big screen with The Lost City. The action-comedy, co-starring Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliffe took the number one spot with $31 million, an impressive haul for a feature not based on existing IP.

The Batman moved down into a still-respectable second place with $20.5 million, but the real surprise entry in the top five was Bollywood war film RRR: Rise, Roar, Revolt. With its third place gross of $9.5 million, it’s the 2nd-highest grossing opening weekend for a Bollywood release. In its 5th week in theatres, video game adaptation Uncharted grossed $5 million in fourth place, while anime fantasy Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie rounded out the top five with $4.5 million.

Perhaps the biggest success of the weekend wasn’t in the top five, or even in the top ten. Everything Everywhere All At Once, starring Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, grossed a modest $509,659… but that came from just 10 theatres across three cities. At roughly $50,000 per screen, A24’s multiverse actioner now has the highest per-screen average of 2022 so far… a very good sign as the film’s wide release approaches on April 7th.
